Artist, Poet, Writer, Filmmaker, Teacher, Motivational Speaker Derrick S. Slack is truly the redefinition of the modern Renaissance Man. D. Slack has traveled the world performing his inspirational and motivational Spoken Word to such diverse places as Morocco, Cuba, Ghana, Italy, France, Senegal, Burkina Faso and all over the United States. He is noted as leaving his audiences in awe with depth and insight that speaks to one's emotions in a way only an old friend would know how to reach. His poems vary in topics from politics, love, joy, peace, war, power and spiritual. His work is diverse enough that it can be performed in churches, universities, grade schools, weddings, conferences and special events. D. Slack is a dynamic artist that can reach anyone with his vast, eclectic repartee.

D. Slack is the author of six published books of poetry as well the director & producer of two documentary films: The Day After Yesterday: Stories of Fathers & Sons, and 19,340: the Ascension of Dreams, the latter which chronicles his epic journey to the summit of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa.  He is currently working on his second CD entitled Know Wonder: The Light From Dark Places, due to be released Fall 2008.

Slack is the founder and Executive Director for the nonprofit organization Youth Poets International, an organization created to teach inner-city youth the value of their talents, abilities, and potential, while exposing them to new experiences such as travel and artistic events.  Currently there are several chapters throughout the United States with plans to expand abroad in the coming year.

For nearly 20 years, D. Slack has been sharing his gifts he has received from God with a variety of people throughout the world.  With plans for another international tour, he will continue to motivate, inspire and impact positive changes in the heart/mind/spirit of those in which he connects.
